    What is pet relocation?

Pet relocation, pet shipping, pet import & export, are all terms used when a pet is transported, often by airplane, from one country to another. Pet relocations are mostly requested when pet owners migrate to a different country, but other reasons are also seen. An example would be when a pet needs to undergo a medical procedure in another country.

How do I prepare my pet for relocation?

There is no one-size-fits-all answer to this question. It will all depend on the country you currently reside in, the country you plan on moving to, and the type of pet you have. Each country has its own set of rules and regulations when it comes to what is required to be allowed to import and export animals. It’s advised to get your pet familiarized with a transport kennel or box well before the relocation happens. This should be learned through force free training and with positive reinforcement.

What documents do I need to relocate my pet?

Just like the question above ‘How do I prepare my pet for relocation’, there is no one-size-fits-all answer to this question. It will all depend on the country you currently reside in, the country you plan on moving to, and the type of pet you have. Documents that are often required are a pet passport, import & export permits, rabies titre test results, and health certificates. Other documents might be needed depending on the situation like CITES papers for exotic pets.

    Can all pets be relocated?

Yes, all pets can be relocated IF they have the required documents and are correctly prepared for the relocation. Exception to this rule is if a type of animal or breed is forbidden from import to that specific country.

What is the cost of pet relocation?

It will depend on factors like the size of the crate your pet will be transported in, the total weight, airline and airport used, and the specific import and export rules and regulations the countries have. Because of this, we always advise to request a no obligation quote so we can calculate the correct price for the specific relocation that needs to be done.

How long does pet relocation take?

This varies a lot depending on the country of destination. Australia is an example of a country which has a long and complicated process. When microchip and vaccination of the pet are not in place, a pet relocation to Australia will take up to about 7 months. When microchip and vaccinations are up to date this is a 6 month process. When the country of destination has relatively easy rules and regulations, the whole relocation process might be possible within a month, or even less.

What are the potential risks of pet relocation and how can they be minimized?

Traveling by airplane is never without risk and there are certain predispositions that pets might have that will increase the risk of flying. Risk can be minimized by deciding case by case if the pet is healthy enough to fly, and choosing the safest time and route for the relocation.

How can I request a pet relocation?
